It was a bright & breezy day at the FDC as nearly 200 children took part in a Girls Football Competition as well as a Festival for children not attached to Football clubs.
The two events were running side-by-side on the day, with the School Games Girls Competition for Yr3/4 pupils providing the competitive action for the day. 11 teams battled it out for the 4 qualification spots on offer in each group and the goals started to rain in from the first whistle - a staggering 131 were scored across the day's action! The commitment & enthusiasm from all the girls taking part was great to see & resulted in a fantastic competition enjoyed by all. The final positions were as follows...
1st BAWDESWELL 2nd FIRSIDE 3rd SWANTON MORLEY 4th EASTON ST.PETERS
(All who qualify for the County Finals on April 25th at Goals Soccer Centre!)
5th SCARNING 6th TOFTWOOD A 7th TAVERHAM JNR 8th REEPHAM
9th ST.AUGUSTINES 10th TOFTWOOD B 11th COSTESSEY JNR
Alongside the Girls competition we also ran a football festival aimed at children in Years 4 to 6 who do not currently play football outside of school in a community environment. The idea being that after the day's experience they would be encouraged to find a Club to join, and details around these options were passed on to staff. These pupils enjoyed some coaching sessions in the morning courtesy of the First Year DESA students, followed by a series of friendly matches in the afternoon and it was lovely to see so many children enjoying the chance to play football & represent their School. The Schools who took part were...
REEPHAM, QUEENS HILL, ASTLEY, TOFTWOOD JNR, FIRSIDE, GARVESTONE, SCARNING & ST.PETER'S EASTON
We are hugely grateful to Matt Henman and the students from the Dereham Education & Soccer Academy (DESA) for providing referee's for the Girls Competition as well as a brilliant coaching team for the festival event - the boys were all brilliant & we couldn't have done it without them!
Also we'd like to extend a big 'thank you' to the FDC for hosting us throughout the day & allowing the pupils to come in & experience such a great facility.
