Nearly 250 children from our Small Schools and from Key Stage 1 took part in two separate Football events at the FDC, brilliantly supported by the DESA students.
The two events were running side-by-side on the day, with the traditional Small Schools tournament providing the competitive action for the day. Here, 10 teams across two groups battled it out for Quarter-Final qualification and the goals started to fly in from the first game onwards - a phenomenal 145 were scored in total across the whole day's action! The commitment & enthusiasm from all the boys & girls taking part was great to see & resulted in a well contested and fantastic competition which was enjoyed by all. The final positions were as follows...
1st CORPUSTY 2nd BAWDESWELL 3rd HOCKERING A 4th BAWBURGH
5th YAXHAM 6th G.WITCHINGHAM A 7th G.WITCHINGHAM B
8th HOCKERING C 10th NORTH ELMHAM 11th HOCKERING B
Alongside the Small Schools competition we also ran a football festival aimed at children in Key Stage 1. These pupils enjoyed some coaching sessions in the morning courtesy of the First Year DESA students, followed by a series of friendly matches in the afternoon and it was lovely to see so many children enjoying the chance to play football & represent their School at such a fantastic local facility. The Schools taking part were...
NORTH ELMHAM, YAXHAM, TOFTWOOD INF, HOCKERING, ST.AUGUSTINES, ASTLEY, ST.PETER'S EASTON, DRAYTON INF, KINGS PARK INF, GROVE HOUSE INF
We are hugely grateful to Matt Henman and the students from the Dereham Education & Soccer Academy (DESA) for providing referee's for the Small Schools tournament as well as a brilliant coaching team for the festival event - the boys were all brilliant & we couldn't have done it without them!
Also we'd like to extend a big 'thank you' to the FDC for hosting us throughout the day & allowing the pupils to come in & experience such a great facility.
