The first ’Day of Calm’ went ahead very successfully on the 14th of November at St Augustine’s Primary School. Suzy started the day with a whole school assembly then ran five workshops with Nursery class up to the Y4 class. The workshops had many activities in them including: ‘Mindful Minute’ ideas, Tai Chi exercises, What’s in the Box, Balloon Pop and Teddy Breath.
Here are some quotes from children about their experiences during the day:
Deon (Year 2)- "It was so calm and I liked it."
Daniel (Year 2)- "The laying down was my favourite bit because I was about to fall asleep."
Alessia- (Year 1)- "We had to look in the box and there were things. We grabbed one and put it in our palm. We felt it and looked carefully at it."
Caitlin (Year 1)- "I really liked the workshop because I got to lie down. We put our hands on our tummy and we breathed. Now I do the laying breathing at home and I like it."
A lovely calming day was had by all & Suzy hopes the teachers are implementing lots of the ideas into their everyday practice.
Drayton Infant School is next for their Day of Calm.
